Acts of Devotion
by Grace {illustrated}
In America, we are celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
My favorite “power couple” from this era is John & Abigail Adams.
This is an exert of a letter John wrote to Abigail
regarding this day
&
the
impetus
for
the
title
“Acts of Devotion”
John penned…
“The 2nd day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America.
I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations
as the great anniversary festival.
It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance,
by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.
It ought to be solemnized with pomp & parade-with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires & illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other from this time foreward
forevermore.”
&
so
I
devote
this
sacred moment of time
to
God
Almighty
.
Solemnly.
Purposely.
Recognizing
that
right where I Am
God Is ~
just
as
God
was in the moment that John penned this letter to Abigail.
There is no separation of this Truth.
What Is True
in
2013
was
true
in
1776
&
will
be
true ~
as John states ~
forevermore
.
As
I
devote
myself
to
this
solemn
act
of
recognition
I
see
the
independence
given
.
Freedom
lies
for
myself ~
just as it did for the Patriots
in
God’s
Infinite
Omnipotence
Omnipresence
Omniscience
.
It
was in & through
this
Oneness with God
that
peace was known in their hearts ~
that peace is known in our hearts ~
today
.
Throughout
this
day
I
will
pause ~
become
still ~
devote
the sacred moment
to
God ~
celebrating
the
One
&
Only
Almighty
Power
that
IS
.
&
so
it
is
&
so
it
does
illumine
me
.
forevermore
.
Thank you, John & Abigail, for your solemn acts ~
your immeasurable devotion ~
to
God
&
to
this
country
.
enjoy your holiday.
It was glorious, Denise, thank you! Yours, too??
I just loved this! What a great tribute. I hope you enjoyed your fourth. I am catching up on reading your blog. I have been offline so much this summer due to some dreams coming true :). I celebrated my independence day by celebrating my future in the new home (and first home for that matter) we recently closed on. (Squeals with delight ). This was about the most beautiful Fourth of July post I have seen. Good writing 🙂
I am so very happy for you, Rebekah! What a way to celebrate Independence day!!! I have but one question: did the cats follow you?
I am catching up today as well. Cannot wait to be inspired by my visit with you!
